Pre-Treatment Instructions:
- Provide a detailed medical history, including any existing medical conditions, allergies, or previous keloid treatments. Also, inform about any medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, or herbal remedies.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or certain herbal supplements for a specific period before the procedure. These medications can increase the risk of bleeding or bruising.
- Protect the treatment area from excessive sun exposure for at least 1 week before the procedure. Apply sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF) if the area is exposed to sunlight.
- Avoid applying any irritants or potentially allergenic substances to the treatment area, such as harsh soaps, perfumes, or cosmetics. These products can increase skin sensitivity and interfere with the treatment process.
- Reduce smoking and alcohol, smoking can affect wound healing, while alcohol can thin the blood and increase the risk of complications.
Post-Treatment Instructions:
- Gently clean the treated area with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh scrubbing or rubbing as it may irritate the skin.
- Avoid touching or scratching the treated area to prevent infection or further irritation.
- Apply prescribed ointments or creams if any.
- Protect the treated area from direct sunlight by wearing protective clothing or using sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF).
- Avoid excessive physical activity: Depending on the location and severity of the keloid, You may be advised to avoid excessive physical activity or movements that can strain the treated area. This is to minimize the risk of complications or disrupting the healing process.
