After an intramuscular injection, it’s important to follow certain aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and minimize potential complications. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Allow your body time to recover by resting the injected muscle for at least 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous activities or exercise that may strain the muscle.
  • To reduce swelling and pain at the injection site, apply a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a cloth for 10-15 minutes at a time. Repeat this every few hours for the first day or two.
  • If necessary, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Follow the recommended dosage and any precautions or contraindications.
  • Keep the area clean to prevent infection. Avoid applying any creams, lotions, or ointments unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider. It’s important to keep the injection site dry for at least 24 hours.
  • Keep an eye out for any signs of an adverse reaction, such as severe pain, excessive swelling, redness, warmth, or drainage from the injection site. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact us.
